Antonia Stolper is Of Counsel in Shearman & Sterling’s Capital Markets – Americas practice group, after retiring as a partner of Shearman & Sterling for 25 years at the end of 2020. Antonia is widely regarded as one of the leading private practice lawyers in the United States working in Latin America. She has represented Latin American corporate and sovereign issuers and their underwriters in debt and equity securities offerings, and has worked on a number of high-profile sovereign debt restructuring transactions, including Argentina and Iraq. Antonia has represented corporate and sovereign clients, including CABEI, Intercorp, Ecopetrol, and Banco de Chile.
Antonia serves on a number of other Boards, including as Vice Chair of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar Association, where she has focused on promoting pro bono practice among private law firms in Latin America and on working to raise the status of women in the legal profession, first in Latin America and now in Africa. Antonia is also a founding member of Shearman & Sterling’s women partners committee, a global network that focuses on supporting and developing talented women at the firm. Before beginning her career as a lawyer, Antonia served as a Foreign Service Officer in Honduras, after growing up in Peru, Brazil, and the Bahamas.
A recognized leader in financial services and energy, Antonia has provided pro bono legal advice to the Climate Bonds Initiative, an innovative financing mechanism for developing countries’ transitions to a low carbon economy. She has recently represented The Nature Conservancy in the groundbreaking debt for marine conservation swap for the Republic of Belize. She was ranked Band 1 in Latin America Capital Markets by Chambers Latin America and Band 1 in Latin American Investment in Chambers Global, who recently named her Senior Statesperson. Antonia is a recipient of the Latin Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award and while a partner of Shearman & Sterling led the Latin America affinity group, was Americas Managing Partner and a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee.
